Remote Screen Sharing is available in Mac OS X Lion, but it was introduced in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. And it’s possibly the most useful iChat feature of all time. It lets you control another Mac anywhere in the world, or another Mac user can control your Mac from any location.
So now when Mom calls you and says, “I’m trying to get my mail, but the thing that I click disappeared,” you don’t have to try to decipher her description and explain how to replace the Mail icon in the Dock. Instead, you calmly say to her, “Mom, just open up iChat, and let me show you how to fix that.” Here’s how it works:

You can combine this feature with the iChat file-sharing feature to collaborate with others on documents or projects.
When you share your screen, the person you share it with has the same degree of access to your files that you have. It follows that you should share your screen only with people you deeply trust. Furthermore, if you have files on your Mac that you would prefer that the other person didn’t see, hide them deep in a subfolder somewhere or delete them before you begin your screen-sharing session.

At times our support staff may ask you to contact them via iChat, which allows you to share your screen for troubleshooting puposes. iChat is free messaging application that comes with Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion) and requires you to have an account setup through AIM / AOL account. In order to be able use iChat for communication and Screen Sharing you will need to setup a free account. When using Mac OSX 10.7 the best way to obtain an iChat account is through AIM / AOL account. If you have an AOL account (“[email protected]”), an Apple MobileMe account (“[email protected]”), or a dotmac account (“[email protected]”), then you can already set up iChat without obtaining a new account. In that case, skip this step and move to Setting up your iChat ID. You have now successfull created a new iChat ID, set up your iChat account and configured your preferences to allow for screen sharing. You are now ready to voice chat, text chat, video chat and screen share with Microspot and anyone else in your buddy list.

Nobody will be able to communicate with you on iChat unless your iChat account is signed in and is online and that you accept their request to communicate. ![]()
